Susan and Cliff travel to the area around Moab.  Our first stop was the scenic San Rafael Swell, after some stops along I-70, we took some 4WD trails to see areas off the beaten path in the Swell.  Next was a quick visit to Arches National Park as we had been there before.  Before heading into The Maze we spent the night in Hanksville at what turned out to be the worst motel ever.  The tub and sink were heavily rust stained.  From the one inch gap under the door sand had covered the carpet.  We agreed that tent camping was way nicer than this motel.  Next morning we filled the Cruiser and 3 gas cans with gas.  A little side trip to Horseshoe Canyon for the ancient pictographs and then on to The Maze.  The Maze section of Canyonlands National Park, Utah is considered one of the most remote areas in the Continental US.  That night we camped at Cleopatra’s Chair in the Maze. We spent a very windy night in our tent, one of us had to be in the tent or it would blow away.  On our way to our next camp at the Maze Overlook campsite, we noticed the Land Cruiser’s front axle was leaking.  We decided to cancel our last two nights of camping in the Maze and head for the south exit at Hite, the closest way out.
